I save 5 stars for things that blow me away. This book is excellent. It doesn’t take any risks in the genre, but the characters are fun, the mystery is intriguing, and the dialogue is witty. An enjoyable read.

Standard pseudohistorical Victorian period book. Flaws with how the author conceptualized "strong female character" but saw enough potential for development to read two more books, but it only got worse from here. Audiobook narrator's male voices are all very similar.

I found this to be very enjoyable. It was easy to follow, a few twists and turns, and entertaining throughout. The romantic interest between India and Matt was sweet and very old-fashioned; in the sense that if their fingers touched they were both blushing, and I was loving It! And even though Matt openly admitted to wanting to kiss India nothing ever happened, so now I’m very interested in reading the second book of this series.

I was looking for something easy to read, and this--despite the plethora of content warnings I'm about to select--fit the bill nicely.

There are a couple of mysteries running in parallel, some fun--if one dimensional--characters, and Victorian England is an entertaining--if lightly sketched--setting. I found the writing to be straight forward, so the plot had to do the heavy lifting in keeping me engaged. Which it did.

Interesting story with some good ideas. But I felt there was too much unresolved at the end.
