Good story. A bit slow, Sera is really annoying in this book, she’s the ultimate spoiled brat. Very argumentative, gets saved from certain death, jumps up and down about not needing protection and puts herself in a situation where she needs saving all over again. Her character was a much stronger lead in the first book. Sexual tension is there, wouldn’t mind a little more crescendo. Support characters keep me interested. There has definitely been some good banter.

Absolutely loved part two of the flesh and fire series, especially how intertwined everything is with the blood and ash series. So many twists and back and forths and ups and downs, I couldn’t stop reading.
I also was so excited to see the Prophecy we’ve seen previously (at least parts of it) in the FBAA series, and how it’s interpreted so much earlier in the timeline. And the start of the Balfour bloodline was super cool to read.
and that cliffhanger!! Idk how I’m going to wait for book three!

SIGH. I did not realize that there would be a third book coming out of this series and tbh I’m annoyed af that it comes out after the final installment of blood and ash rather than before. I wish I would’ve read these first because SO much of blood and ash makes waaaay more sense now. I was looking forward to being able to see the full scope of the story upon finishing this one, but alas, I pay the price for not just googling shit before diving in. Overall, fun read. Did a way better job of not just regurgitating the exact same story as b&a like the first one did.

Wow. A Light in the Flame (ALITF) takes places as soon as A Shadow in the Ember ends. The sexual tension in this book can be tasted. Nyktos is hotter than hot. Sera is a force of her own. She is fierce and willing to do anything it takes. I laughed. I sobbed. I gasped. I didn't want it to end. Jennifer L Armentrout addresses several things in this book. One of them being anxiety. The way she handles Sera's anxiety is top notch. Sera struggles and the breathing techniques she uses are technequies I have had to use myself to calm down. The way JLA handles people being family was one of my favorite quotes in the entire book: "Just because someone shares the same bloodline as you doesn't mean they deserve your time or thoughts." I honestly can not wait to see where this series goes next. Nyktos will do anything to save Sera. I know Jennifer won't disappoint. As a closing thought, Chapter 13 lives in my head rent free and I will be reading that portion again. Whew.
