Embarrassing as a woman to read this. This is a romantic hero- really fuck off. He didn't come around until his fun days as a hockey jock were over. The way he treated her prior to his 'new life' was appalling. Both them were unappealing, as she was bitter and he was constantly making excuses. The kid wasn't too bad, and acted like a kid. It was more like a 1.8.

This was a wonderful second chance romance. I really liked the ups and downs as Jaxson and Lucy come together and fall in love all over again. It was sweet and playful, emotional and intense. I enjoyed it all!

Since meeting Jaxson in the Need You series, I have wanted his and Lucy's story. I loved learning their history and how the story is set up between past and present, there were great building details. I like the attraction that Jaxson and Lucy still have, there’s a strong pull between them that’s magnetic. Learning about Jaxson and the things he'd done, I wanted to not like him but I loved seeing present-day Jax, trying to do better and learning from his past mistakes. By the end, I loved him.

Even though Jaxson and Lucy had major chemistry, I felt this was a slow burn romance. I loved the bond of intimacy they were forming throughout the story. There was a lot of openness and honesty happening, hard truths that had to be shared - not all of them pretty - some pretty darn uncomfortable actually. I thought the author did a great job sharing these raw and real things.

I liked the build, the characters, and details. I thought it was well written but some spots felt drawn out while other things felt glossed over so sometimes the pacing was off for me. Other than that, it was a pretty great read. I loved Jaxson's redemption and finally being the man he was meant to be. I loved Lucy's strength and forgiveness, and being able to move forward. Great start to a new series!

Another good story about faulty people. I am also surprised I actually liked it, because of the history the characters have. I am so not the fan of that, so I was a bit wary. But....I liked the hero, I believed him. Maybe because we aren't shown when "it" happens, jut the aftermath. I didn't actually see him in his drunken behavior and I don't remember much from the previous books and how he acted. Maybe if I did, I wouldn't have enjoyed the book so much. I liked the heroine too. She was strong, but also bitter, which is totally normal and made her seem more real. I had some issues with the final "big secret", because I don't think it's that of a big deal, but otherwise it was a solid read.

Such a strong start but after the slow burn kick off, these two went 0 to 100. It was lacking the angst that would normally accompany a second chance cheating type of book which I really would have enjoyed more. I did love the flashbacks as they made me appreciate the MC’s relationship. 2.5/5.

This is my first time reading a book by Lorelei James and while I enjoy her writing, I just don’t think I can get past Jax and Lucy’s history enough to enjoy this book.

Although we learn all about their issues in this book, I kind of feel like none of those issues were discussed to a point where I felt closer or redemption for the things that happened between them. I’m reading that Jax made appearances in a previous series and since I haven’t read her before, maybe that’s why I feel like I’m missing something?

Anyways, because I feel like the writing was good and I hear so many good things about Lorelei James, I will chalk this one up to just not being the right fit for me. However, I will definitely read something else from her.

I sadly didn’t love this one. There was something missing in the chemistry for me. And there were somethings I didn’t think were needed. This book just didn't work for me for a few reasons, but I can see how some will love it.

In a previous book in this series, Jaxson Lund had described his daughter's mother, Lucy Quade, as someone barely better than Lucifer himself. At the end of the story, we learned that Lucy may not really be as bad as she seemed. And now that Jaxson has retired from hockey and pulled himself out of the grips of alcoholism, he can admit to himself that she is a really good mother. And a really good woman. In fact, he wants her back.
But Lucy isn't so sure. Mimi was an unexpected baby. She and Jaxson had supposedly been in love but he cheated on her and then dragged her name through the mud. She's dating and looking for something better. Even though that park is still there...
I liked that Jaxson had some consequences from his sleeping around. I did not so much like the flashbacks. I'm not sure why it's so popular right now to flip back and forth between the present and the past in romances but I find it very distracting. Not distracting enough not to read the next book in the series though; I'm really hoping it's the romance between ice skater Gabri and Jaxson's brother.
