Absolutely wonderful, and a beautiful portrait of childhood in Britain in the 1920s. How can I feel so nostalgic for a time I never lived through?

What a treasure! Crystalline language, superb imaging, stunning illustrations. This little book is a perfect trip down memory lane and a glimpse of a world gone forever.

I read this over at https://www.poemhunter.com/best-poems/dylan-thomas/a-child-s-christmas-in-wales/ and also treated myself to a listen over on You Tube of Thomas reading this himself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HoxycLmMOk I normally hate being read to but it is impossible to hate this beautifully vibrating voice breathing even more life into this work.

I've never read nostalgia so well realised & I loved the gentle humour.

Here is a quote dear to a Goodreader's heart.

And when the firemen turned off the hose and were standing in the wet, smoky room, Jim's Aunt, Miss. Prothero, came downstairs and peered in at them. Jim and I waited, very quietly, to hear what she would say to them. She said the right thing, always. She looked at the three tall firemen in their shining helmets, standing among the smoke and cinders and dissolving snowballs, and she said, "Would you like anything to read?”

Wishing all my Goodreads friends A Very Merry Christmas and a Literary 2018!

It's the last night of my post-Christmas vacation before heading home tomorrow and back into the reality of daily work and life. So as a treat, I pulled out this beloved book and reread it. Dylan Thomas, this poem/book is a treasure that I'm looking forward to reading to my grandson.

Enchanting. Found the recording of Dylan Thomas reading it too. Really really lovely.

Lovely. I listened to the audiobook read by Dylan Thomas and he had a great voice for it (obviously).

(This is perhaps cheating a little on my reading challenge considering how short it is, but a book is a book is a book)
