This book is so good and has such important message with it. I can’t really put it in words, but Curato created a vital story that is so relevant and powerful for queer youth. It was so easy to get swept into Aiden’s story as he comes to terms with his identity in this emotional YA novel, and you can’t help but root for him. This is one of those books that everyone needs to read at least once.

Queer Catholics gather round, this one is for us.
I’ve never read a book that so accurately represents the Holy Spirit. Her flame is divine and powerful and lives within us all.
Going into this I knew it was about Boy Scouts and coming of age but I had no idea it would speak so honestly of the Catholic experience and the complexity of the inner mind, especially during that big jump into Highschool.
I was so moved by this book. I definitely recommend it.

This book will save lives.

That is a quote on the cover of this book from Jarrett Krosoczka and is a very apt description. Aiden is struggling to find what being a boy/man means while at scouting camp. He finds solace in his pen pal and is nervous about the start of a new school in the fall. He's hoping for a fresh start and to escape his tormentors who constantly call him guy. But he's pretty sure he isn't gay. Probably.
This book covers bullying and self harm and homophbia and fatshaming  in a confused early teenaged boy's life. The use of color is dramatic and poignant in this graphic novel with lots of metaphoric imagery.
Best for a high school library with swearing, sex jokes, and self harm topics.

I would not wish the experiences shown in this book on anyone. That is exactly why it’s so important to read about them. With reading comes an understanding of what others may being going through or experiencing. When told in the right ways, stories like this encourage empathy, healthy coping mechanisms, and positive communication skills. This story in particular upset me, but that shows it was well-done. The art and the writing is a solid show of talent!
