The best part of this book was the atmosphere of the cold, windy small Irish island. Agnes's character also really grew on me; first person narration was a great choice. I thought at first that the plot was too predictable since I have read similar story arcs before and have also read Frankenstein, which this is based on. However, I was happily surprised by the twists towards the end and enjoyed the direction.

Pretty cool, quick-reading retelling of (one section of) Mary Shelley's Frankenstein from an alternate perspective. I liked it! Good character work, good scene-setting, good ending.

Tim McGregor you will pay for your crimes

this was completely the opposite of what i was expecting, and it was fantastic, after a specific moment my jaw was on the floor all the way to the end. And yes, the first handful of chapters were tedious and i found two typos as well but Agnes and her children are so dear to me, i can’t believe i had to sit through this story, getting to know this family and caring about their wellbeing just to get that ending.. absolutely foul. another thing that’s foul is Victor and the Creature, reading the og Frankenstein i could clearly tell they weren’t entirely bad/good but i fear Eynhallow is gonna cause damage in my view of them, specially Victor omfg

“Death is a promise that cannot be made pretty.“

I was worried that a Frankenstein retelling might be dry or boring, but I absolutely adored everything about this story! The writing, the characters and the setting were all top notch.

I feel like this is the closure I needed after how much I despised the Frankenstein-ish movie/book Poor Things this year.

This was a very good, very interesting book. It really goes hard on the difficulty of womanhood and the expectations for mothers. I love the way Agnes was shown to be both completely dedicated to her children and yet resentful of her role as their mother. My complaints are few. Mainly, that the pacing was inconsistent. There were times the story built very slowly, and other things that felt very rushed. It mostly worked well, but there were times I wish a moment had been slowed down or explored more, and times the book felt like it dragged. Overall, would recommend.

A cozy, feminist, and atmospheric horror?! This is what I live for! The setting of Eynhallow is claustrophobic, eerie but beautiful at the same time. I love the talk of superstitions around trolls, fae, and a haunted cottage on the cliffs. Agnes is an amazing character. She is strong willed and caring. The women hold everything together in this little village.

The very beginning of this book sets the tone for the men and how they treat women. I was ready to take her husband down after the first few pages.
