3.5 stars. This evoked my preteen days of enjoying The Princess Diaries! Izumi is a relatable teenager swept up in a Japanese fairytale. I was more interested in her relationship with her father and cultural identity instead of her love interest, but it was adorable overall!

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this book. The plot is potentially a bit cliché but it was a nice casual read and I loved the relationships between the characters. I loved the writing style too, it was more laid back than some others that I've read it made it more fun/enjoyable

Aww what a lovely book. The easy trope would have been having her newly aquired royal family dislike her, but I'm glad that the author went the opposite direction. I mean, at least for the adults. It was really sweet how her father stepped into the role with genuine love. It was also refreshing how MC had a strong voice of her own, instead of being a damsel in distress. Overall I really enjoyed the audiobook version. Great as a standalone, but would be excited to have it expand into a douology.

The plot was too predictable, fluffy, and I wasn't in the right headspace for it.
