Why is she saying that she is doesn’t like that akechi is here even though she purposefully left clues about what was to happen? And then she goes to say she is excited to take him on??
Don’t know who some of the dialogue belongs to.
Jun one second is crying on her lap and telling her he wants to stay, but previously seems to be scared of her and prideful.
Jun also seems to be surprised that she has killed people, however he just spend a chapter calling her a sorceress that would make him disappear in the blink of an eye.
The woman is introduced doing a seductive dance, which is really pointless in the context of the book, if she is supposed to be this really badass character that cares little about others and loves the thrill of evading capture- why introduce her like this and not in a more terrifying way.
The book tries to make her intimidating, but fails she comes across like a stupid child that pointlessly gives away information to make things harder for herself, for no reason other than she likes the thrill of a good intellectual fight. But this completely takes away from the books attempts at characterising her as the queen of the underworld, as it make her come across as incredibly dumb.
Making the book fail at all attempts to maker her come across as intimidating. Making the fact that a man that has just angrily killed two people is now bowing at her feet seem ridiculous.
Yes she needs her to help him with his freedom, but the fact that she has the reputation she has is the only thing that she has going for her- she is useful because of her connections, she hasn’t done anything particularly impressive on her own two feet- therefore failing to make her seem like an actually intimidating character. It makes her and her ‘underlings’ look like a complete and utter joke.
The book then has her say how she is going to steal someone’s daughter, this could’ve been intimidating but the book has her jump around like a child in excitement.
The idea a childlike character that does bad things like this could be really interesting, but is really the books folly in the opening as it has made every attempt at making her seem cool fall flat on its face. The book fails to utilise this trope in any meaningful way, making the character a joke.
