Empire of Dragons is an epic, enemies to lovers, young adult fantasy. Rachel Schade is a talented storyteller, and she has crafted a fantastic tale of dragons, magic, and forbidden love. Empire of Dragons was difficult to put down. The story, world-building, and vivid descriptions draw you in, but the complex characters and captivating history keep you hooked. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and loved the completely unexpected plot twist leading to the cliffhanger. I can’t wait to dive into this world again in book 2!

A great first instalment to the series. It has Throne of Glass energy in terms of the politics this system sets out. However, the magic and characters are all Schade's own.
A 2-person POV novel, this fantasy book lays the groundwork for an empire in turmoil. Tropes include:
Enemies to crushes,
Will they/won't they,
One bed trope,
Bada$$ nun (is this a trope? Feels like it should be)
And a million other tropes my brain can't brain right now. On to the second book I go!

I really wanted to love this book because I was so excited about the dragons, but there was barely any dragons and too many POV’s. I really did like the nuns POV and that’s what kept me going, but overall I felt like it would have been better to not have sooooo many things going on.. oh and more dragons please.

Do you remember when you were reading Crooked Kingdom and were disappointed to start a new chapter if it wasn't from Kaz or Inej's point of view? (Well, I was at least, and I was very irritated that we had to get NINE. VERY. LONG. chapters in before a Kaz POV.)
That's how I felt every time it was Lo's POV chapter in this book.
Not that you don't care about the other characters in their POV's, but if you're missing the point of that whole spiel, Jalie was my favorite
