This was such a thought-provoking book. I really enjoyed the three perspectives told across three generations of female characters. It was somehow both terribly heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time. Highly recommend.

Where to begin. Following the story of three women, all at different stages of the same life, I reflected on myself as another woman and felt their pain, grief and helplessness.

Although the story is centred around a culture I am only slightly familiar, the fundamental value of choice resonates so strongly in me as I read through. Just as I easily recognised the element of choice, in that very same moment I also recognised the lack of it.

Such a powerful story.

That ending...what was that?!?!? Seriously, I'm now going to hopefully read everything Etaf Rum publishes because this book made me cry. A lot.
