This is one of those rare Kinsey Milhone that really got under my skin. It was more personal than most of her cases and I could see her forge bonds I hadn't seen in a while. It was a worth read and made me plunge into the next one... In the middle already.
In this one Kinsey investigates a murder of a mysterious woman with different layers according to all that knew her. Each a side but none the complete piece. It was engaging and interesting and I loved the more personal Kinsey.

K is past the pinnacle of what made this series great. Having read some later stuff, I think it picks up again. And K was a good-enough read, but not one of the best in the series.

This series keeps moving right along and I'm enjoying the ride so far. Reading other reviews here it seems some people are put off by the ending but I liked it just fine. I don't need every little detail spelled out for me and I thought the lack of detail at the end only inspired my imagination to fill in the blanks. Really, though, everything that happened was well implied.

The procedural parts of solving the crime were well done, as usual, and kept me turning the pages. I also appreciate that the author strayed some from the "formula" of previous novels in the series. Kinsey, as a character, is changing as a result of what happens to her. And since the events in this novel get personal, that appropriately changed Kinsey's actions at the end. She has crossed a line now and it will be interesting to see if future novels in the series capitalize on this.
