This was an amazing read! When Brittany talked about rebellion and parental control, I felt seen on so many levels. Her positive mindset in talking about other celebrities and her love for her fans. Obviously, it would've been nice to have a more in-depth conversation on what happened. But just what she wrote was enough. It's clear that it's a trigger and something she wants to keep behind her. 
Brittany expresses herself so wonderfully through the book. She's honest on her feelings, on how things were. Though she sounds naive and even a bit too optimistic given the situation - you also see how smart she is. She's aware of the situation, of how the world is viewing her, of the narrative that is being made about her. But she also shows herself honestly. She's not Madonna or other female celebrities that try to show themselves above any men or woman. She's honest on her failings, and even her lack of fighting when it comes to conservatorship. But she also talks about how it was to be in that situation - her beings held against and her literal fight to just stay alive. 
She's also honest about fame and what it means to be famous. The attention and the mental toll it takes. Honestly, this memoir was superb.

With that said, I mean this with all my heart, FUCK JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE.

Gosh, I don't even know where to start with this review. It was such a roller coaster of emotions. The story was interesting, but the writing was weak and there were certain parts I felt could have been flushed out more. Overall, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars.

In The Woman in Me, Britney Spears shares snippets of what her life was like growing up in the south, getting on The Mickey Mouse Club, rising to fame in her teens, crashing out in her 20s, and being controlled for almost 14 years. You can definitely notice when it shifts from a ghost writer to Spears' voice. It almost felt like I was reading her diary. Makes me wonder what didn't make the cut in the editing process and how much control people had over what she could publish. 

The book definitely sent me down a rabbit hole of her social media over the years and how she has slowly been able to become a version of herself she controls. It's so sad to hear that her family treated her like a cash cow and never let her be her own person. It seems like she had so much talent to share with the world and her POS parents wanted to capitalize on it. This story gives me less faith in our legal system taking appropriate action to support those who are unable to speak for themselves.

PS - it made me a little happy, in a weird way, to know that Jamie Lynn has always been obnoxious. Sucks she didn't do more to support her sister.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ = This book was phenomenal and very difficult to put down. The characters were lovable, the plot was great, and the writing was strong. Definitely have a book hangover. I know this will be a story I think about for a long time. Highly recommend to everyone! 

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ = This book was very good but I was able to put it down for the night. The characters were good, the plot was fine, and the writing was good. I’ll recommend this book to others. There were definitely moments from the book I really liked, maybe even loved, and there were some parts that may have some room for improvement. I definitely recommend giving this book a try! 

⭐️⭐️⭐️ = This book was fine. The characters, plot, and writing were all okay, but nothing extraordinary. I may have had an issue with some pieces in the plot or the writing. I may recommend this book to some people but not everyone I run into. It was a good book - it just wasn’t a favorite of mine. 

⭐️⭐️ = This book was okay but far from a favorite. There may have been some moments that I liked, but overall, I may have had a bigger issue with the characters, plot, or the writing. I don’t plan on recommending this book to most people, or anyone at all. Just wasn’t for me. 

⭐️ = This book I actually disliked. Definitely wasn’t my cup of tea and there wasn’t anything I enjoyed about it. I actually had a tough time getting through this book and may have not even finished it. I may have had major issues with the character, plot, or the writing. I do not recommend.

This isn't the most open memoir. It's very specific in what she chooses to talk about with huge gaps in time and themes and is written in a very immature tone. But I think that all really says something important in itself. It's the memoir of someone who didn't have a childhood, who didn't have an adulthood, who needed (and still needs) real therapy and support that they never got. What she shares of her life story is sad and the way she reflects on it is another kind of sad to me. It may be less the story of her life and more the story of all the betrayals she's suffered, but that's still a story I'm glad she can tell now.
