Britney Spears’ memoir is entertaining, shocking, and stomach-turning—and above all it made me think of how women have been controlled over the centuries in the same ways: infantilized while sexually commodified, pain belittled, reproductive choices limited, separated from her children, institutionalized, involuntarily medicated, labor exploited. Britney says something about maybe having some kind of feminist awakening—I really wish this would be.
Graphic: Forced institutionalization
Moderate: Body shaming, Confinement, Infidelity, Grief, Abortion, and Gaslighting
Minor: Addiction, Drug use, Miscarriage, Suicide, Death of parent, Pregnancy, and Alcohol
