A fierce, post-modern feat of poetics.

amazing!! well first of all, i thought it was stylistically great. but i also appreciate the theme a lot. i'm not black myself, so this was insightful for sure. it's a wonderful collection about being black, specifically a black woman, and it explores so much of black culture. really good ^_^

A couple of these poems literally took my breath away, but a lot were meh for me. I think...I should maybe stop reading poetry books and read individual poems instead.

I saw this book in stores since it came out but it took a while to finally buy and read it and I'm so happy that I did. Parker has poems that are easy to read and reread--the kind of poems that are a pleasure to go into and which also are fiercely intelligent and playful. I don't have the experience necessary to technically assess her brilliance, but it is a really magnificent book to sit down with and get into. Nuanced, political, contemplative, glamorous, snarky, sharp.

One of my absolute favorite books of poetry of all time. Everyone should read this at this very moment and always.
