Entering this world should be done with caution. I actually can’t believe I just read 800 pages and absolutely nothing changed from start to page like 700, but I was pretty well hooked. This book deals with some pretty heavy topics, but also the humour in it had me laughing out loud. I definitely enjoyed this book, but there were some things that frustrated me, like the possessive nature of some characters and the submissiveness of others. please check the trigger warnings before picking this one up, it’s full on

This book. Usually I can’t read slow burns because I get bored but this book was so easy to stay interested in. I fell in love with all of the characters so quickly. Chloe Walsh just has a way of making these characters real to you, probably more real than any other books I’ve read. The whole time I was reading this book I was going back and forth between covering my mouth with shock, sobs, or laughter. Its such an emotional book. My heart breaks for the struggles that Shannon and her siblings go through as well as the struggles Johnny faces and even the small pieces that were revealed of side characters struggles.

This book is the slow burn of all slow burns and it’s so worth it. I will recommend this book to everyone. It’s a book (and series) I will take no criticism on because I think it’s just so beautifully written and the stories of the characters are just how they’re meant to be. Everyone read it!

Goodness gracious that book was incredibly long for a contemporary romance novel (and it seems as though the rest of the series is even longer). 😮‍💨

I experienced a rollercoaster of emotions while reading this story - so I will go ahead and start off with the things that I enjoyed while reading:

The side characters were interesting! I am curious about Joey + Aoife + Gibsie + Claire + Patrick and hope to learn more about them at some point in the future (when I get around to reading the rest of the series)! :)

I liked that Johnny & Shannon were kind to one another (most of the time at least). I went into this book blind and wasn’t sure what to expect but seeing him protect the “new girl” was refreshing!

I loved the songs that were mentioned throughout the book!

Now — onto the things that I wasn’t the biggest fan of:

Towards the middle point of the book / right up until the field trip chapter it felt as though I was rereading the same chapter over and over again because some things were soo repetitive. This book could’ve been shorter if some unnecessary / repetitive material would’ve been cut.

I also wish that this book had more male “villain” characters. Ronan was present at the beginning of the book, but then seemingly faded off into obscurity & it felt as though 95% of the female characters discussed in this book disliked Shannon because they were “jealous” of her (because she was soo different from all of them & all of their boyfriends wanted her) which…is something that I just wasn’t a fan of?

I’m curious to see how the series progresses! ♡

So I loved this sm! Idk I’m addicted! There’s no plot but I don’t really care. I love a good character study and that’s exactly what this was.

4.5⭐️ ~ My brain truly can’t comprehend what I just read. Like omg this story was crazy but I loved it so much. Gibsie is hands down my fav character but everyone is a close second. I was literally at the edge of my seat this entire time which is probably the only way I was able to get through the craziness of this 600 page book.

Let me just say that this is the slowest slowburn of all slowburns to ever exist. It took all my patience and I found myself yelling at the book a lot. Anyways what a cliffhanger. I need book 2 asap.

Giving this a 4.5 just bc it was such a long book for the very little amount of actual relationship time they had. But who cares because I loved it anyways and is a new sports romance fav of mine.

Now I need to decide if I want to but the kindle version of book 2 so I can have it now or get the physical copy that I really want even though it won’t come until Sunday.

If you have a high patience tolerance then read this book asap. Thank you so much to my bestie, Lex for recommending this to me.

Also please check TW before reading this book 🫶🏻

There are no words to describe how much I loved this book. Such a slow burn that depicts high school love so sweetly.
Both characters have strengths and weaknesses that balance each other out and had me rooting for them the whole time. Not only did I love Shannon, like the river, and Johnny, but I enjoyed all the size characters too! Gibsie, Joey, Claire, even Lizzie proved to be lovable. I was initially intimidated by the page count and find size but I found myself able to fly through chunks when I made sure to dedicate time! Overall such a cute high school sports romance I will certainly be continuing!
