This was interesting. I was really intrigued to see we’re this would go and what actually happened. My favorite part was seeing how all the different characters and their motives differed from what you thought previously from another point of view. I do have to say though that most of the reasons things happened honestly was stupid and didn’t even make sense to me(like it did, but I don’t think any of it works, but then again they are psychopaths). I think this is worth picking up, but to me nothing shocked me and it was a little repetitive at times which I personally didn’t mind.

Absolutely gripping! So many factors contributed to making this book wonderfully tense. I found myself saying "OH MY GOD" out loud many times, sometimes multiple times per chapter. As someone who's done a bit of research into the rise of crime among young people in Japan, it also appealed to me in that regard - as dark as it can be, I definitely enjoy considering what real-world factors lead these people to do the things they do. If you're the same, I highly recommend this book.

The shock from how the first chapter ended was really something.

The ending was concluded well in my opinion.

What the fuck! Lmao!

This was fine. Cool concept. Kind of lost interest and felt not much after, but still liked reading. I am so scared of children.

disclaimer if you’ve read other reviews by me and are noticing a pattern: You’re correct that I don’t really give starred reviews, I feel like a peasant and don’t like leaving them and most often, I will only leave them if I vehemently despised a book. I enjoy most books for what they are, & I extract lessons from them all. Everyone’s reading experiences are subjective, so I hope my reviews provide enough information to let you know if a book is for you or not, regardless if I add stars or not. first of all, there’s a throwaway line in the beginning of the book that is so fucking transphobic & yes, I recognize this was published in 2008 but it’s not okay & could EASILY BE TAKEN OUT! 💔😬

Anyway, I just re read this via the audiobook for the first time in years and yooooooooooooooo I forgot how fucking dark this book is. It’s hard to grapple with as a millennial who has grown up with news of so many tragic and traumatic local and world events, but overall, a captivating read & so many twists & turns.

The six chapters are very long, because all of them take you through different monologues from various narrators. Describing them to you would spoil the book so just read it!

Lastly, the vibe for this book is pretty much “fuck them kids!!!!!”
