Loved the first 20% or so with the suspense and intrigue but then gradually lost interest and skim read till the end. This one felt like Ms. Thalassa poured elements/themes from her previous books into one big grinder a pressed the magic bonkers mix-up button. And the male lead seemed like a watered-down copy-paste version of War and King Lazuli !

I feel like everything is underdeveloped, characters, plot, magic system, etc.. I feel no connection to the characters and the plot does not have enough intrigue or tension to keep me invested. It’s not worth another 4 hours of reading.

I think this book starts quite average. It feels very rushed through the first 20%. But after that it gets interesting. I liked the premise of whenever Selene uses her magic she loses memories and it was well done in this novel. I love a good animal companion and magic book so it ticks alot of boxes. I wasn't sure where this book really fell in the audience department though. It felt quite young adult at parts then definitely adult at other times. I will read the next book as I did enjoy the plot and want to see where this goes.
