Audiobook - Spotify
Read the first version -  Read the book, to grasp the world on the SUD population and what a 12 step program is like.  I was able to. Understand the steps, history, and the linguistics of AA.  That is all I wanted to gain from it, so I didn’t finish the book.

This title was referenced in a recent book I read on behavior change. I was curious what strategies AA leverages. Interesting read. Remarkably progressive thinking given when it was published. Reminds me a bit of Taoist thought.

THIRD EDITION RECEIVED AT MY FIRST MEETING. I got this book at my first AA meeting on October 3, 1996. I assume I read it all but honestly can’t recall. It is likely the ONLY book I own to have highlighting in it. *gasp!* 575 pages of guideposts and hope. The 12-step programs all over the world are miraculous; the humans of the Coronavirus Pandemic era (2020-2022) could learn a lot from this program. Its simplicity and fellowship. “We are people who normally would not mix” (pg 17 of 4th Edition). Now, 25+ years later, it’s time to upgrade to the 4th Edition, and get digital and audio versions. It’s a familiar and welcome comfort.

The people who read this book and give it 1 star are the ones who aren't actually alcoholics. They cannot give a proper rating to this because they have know idea what it is like to relate to any of these topics and knowledge this book provides. If they did, they would give it 5 stars. This book is filled so much greatness, knowledge, help, tips, etc. As a person who is in AA now for alcoholism, and the want to find my higher power and live a life filled with happiness now instead of alcohol, I understand the power of this book. I didn't give this book a chance the first time around before I went to rehab, because I didn't think I was an alcoholic. Now, This book is my lifeline some nights. I give it 10 out of 5 stars. My sobriety date: 3/4/22.
