I picked this up in my quest to read more classics.
"Persuasion" is a beautiful story about love and second chances. The Elliot family seem to be a well-off group that own land and are respected by their community. Sir Walter's wife, passed away fourteen years ago and left him alone to raise three daughters: Elizabeth, Anne, and Mary. Mary, the youngest, chose to marry a wealthy man named Charles Musgrove, while her two sisters have remained single. The family decides to relocate to Bath and rent out their home in an effort to make their spending more manageable.
This was one of my favorites from Jane Austen. I think the discussions around debt and living within your means are very timely and something that everyone during any time period can relate to. I also really enjoyed seeing women portrayed "past their prime" and still single. The pressure for a woman to marry, and quickly, is something that is still pushed today, but especially in the early 1800's, this was extremely taboo. I love that Jane Austen pushed for her novels to represent a myriad of feminist characters.
I will definitely pick up more of Jane Austen's work in the future.

This is my favorite JA novel so far, and unless I really fall in love with Emma, I don’t think that’s going to change. I love how despite being a second chance romance on the surface, I think it’s much more about learning to trust yourself and your own judgment, which is something that resonated with me a lot. Also Wentworth’s letter had me giggling and kicking my feet. Love you Jane, you’ve never released anything but bangers 😘😘

DISCLAIMER -  I read this text as a set text for university meaning I did not pick this up for myself. It does not necessarily fit my usual reading selection so my review may be rather biased.

Of all of them I’ve read, this is my second favourite Austen. A beautiful story of love and loss and complex emotions, with an older and somewhat more mature set of characters. I enjoyed the simplicity of the story and the declarations of love were believable yet poetically written.

Enjoyed this read!

Maybe it was the time of reading/my mood, but I couldn't get terribly attached to any of the characters in this story - it was a stark contrast between the sweet main characters and their mostly-horrible surrounding cast, but I didn't find either super interesting. That said, I the sharp narrator was often funny and I always enjoy ogling the now-odd traditions, customs, and rules of the regency area.
