This was a wild ride. It succeeded in bringing me to tears on the subway, which is about as intense as a novel can get. The only thing keeping me from giving it a 5 was that so many parts of the book felt like they dragged on longer than the should, and were confusing in ways not central to the story itself (this narrative structure does necessitate some confusion).

A shifting portrait of identity and belonging. The third act causes the narrative to stumble, but it comes to a cathartic end.
