It's so easy for a book like this to follow a very typical pattern and be very predictable. I loved it because it wasn't predictable at all. Stayed up till midnight to finish it.

I took out this book because it reminded me of the Bravo show, "Pregnant in Heels." It's a completely ridiculous show, but it's so much fun to laugh at, and Rosie, the 'maternity concierge' is actually quite charming herself.

The main character in this book had a similar predicament to Rosie, in that she desperately wanted a baby as she was surrounded by them constantly (Rosie was trying IVF). Katie's biggest difference, though, was her asshole husband, who is dead-set against kids. I found Katie to be kind of a nitwit sometimes. I know there wouldn't have been much of the story if she didn't want a baby with her husband no matter what, but, open your eyes, Katie! When your husband says he doesn't want anymore kids, or puts it off every time you talk, he means it! As much as I love my boyfriend, if I knew he was so against something I wanted so strongly, I'd know there was an end-date. I'm not going to try to poke holes in his defense (ha. ha.). Why have a baby with someone who doesn't want it?

Anyway, for the big twist of the book, I have to say I was a bit surprised. I suppose it was telegraphed a bit (I had a feeling Alex was a cheater, but more with the strippers than clients) but I was a bit shocked right there alongside Katie when Alex knocked on Twila's door. Normally I see that stuff coming but...I didn't, and I liked that.

I liked most of Katie's clients (another big difference from the TV show), though it was obvious we were supposed to, and the build-up of her company, though I thought it was a bit too convenient that her company blew up so quickly. But what was up with that strange money-grubbing transformation she had right after finding out she was adopted. Eh?

I guess the biggest problem with the book is that it was all easy-peasy. Yeah, your husband cheats on you and you can't have that baby you've wanted. But look to your left, there's a replacement husband ten times better and his super-cute infant! Lose your job? Just start your own on accident and watch as it becomes a super-hit practically by itself! Find out you're adopted? Turns out your biological parents were millionaires that left you a giant trust fund!

I love myself a happy ending, so...I guess it was OK for this type of book. But you can tell the author was kind of loathe to really hurt Katie in any way. I guess when you create and stay with a character for so long, it's kind of like giving birth to it. You want to protect your creation and never have anything bad to it, especially if it's by your hand. But I think Katie could have used a little more tough love, in this case.

I did enjoy all of the little quotes at the beginning of each chapter.

The twists/revelations were a little much -- one would have been enough. But the main character was well done.

This review contains SPOILERS. I'm not sure how to rate this. It was a fun story. I can totally see how baby planning could become a whole business, if it isn't already.

This was well written and interesting. It had me sucked in reading to know more. Unfortunately, I just couldn't stay invested in the character, when she resorted to lying to her husband and poking holes in condoms.

Yes, she desperately wanted a baby. Yes he felt guilty for not being able to see his son. But lies and deception are not how you want to bring a baby into the world. And, also I felt like I knew he was cheating the whole time and everyone who loved her saw an issue with him too.
