The bitter reality that this book presents is a very important reality check.

I really enjoyed the second book in the Front Desk series. I specifically liked how this was semi biographical, and because of my age in 1994, I was unaware that this was happening in California.

This awesome sequel to the bestseller Front Desk is another it for Yang. It's powerful, emotional, and engaging story draws in the reader to the struggles of Mia Tang, with her writing, the motel, and finding out her friend has immigrated illegally. I especially love the last sentence, in which the title originated.

Nice follow up to Front Desk! Addresses real & current issues with racism, difficulty making ends meet, and unfair legislation. Excellent read.

Well written but agonising look at the plight of immigrants (legal and otherwise) through the lens of Mia and her classmates.
This is a historic flashback. The increased polarisation in recent years a stark reminder that things have not improved.
