This book was way too heavy on romance and attraction, as opposed to focusing on a relationship. The entire plot seemed to surround an instant, incessant, physical attraction. There were two characters who were not interested in each other. They still managed to be obsessively attracted from first sight. They had nice, productive, capable selves which had no need for a life partner. But, they were forced to rethink this because they’d never been drawn to someone like this. Even the violent gun-fighting scenes had an undercurrent of mutual attraction, as opposed to focusing on the tension of a life-threatening danger. This incessant physical attraction was present in every single scene. It was clean, but still managed to be obsessive and annoying. It ruined the entire book for me. There were gun-fights, betrayals, and crippling wounds but none of them seemed to matter compared to the constant lusting. There was no way to overlook the romance because it made the book. So, I couldn’t enjoy any of the other parts of the novel, either.

This book has many Christian references, and the last few chapters managed to include a theme of forgives and overcoming of past sins. Which I guess was nice, but it was also pretty predictable to me. Also, did I mention that all I really noticed was the constant attraction?

In short, I don’t see any reason to read this book. There are so many other books out there that have everything this book has but better.

And there are so many more. I'd love to hear any other similar recommendations!

Content:
Romance: Instant, heavy, obsessive attraction, though all kept clean. Very heated kisses. In one scene a captive woman is roughed around by men, and fears what they might do to her, though all we’re shown is a few lewd looks and hands on her clothing.
Religion: Quoting proverbs and the Bible. Many instances of praying to Jesus and god and talking of people being an answer to their prayers.
Violence: Many scenes with gunfires, bullets, killing, and multiple injures. In one scene it’s described how Josephine digs inside a wound for a bullet but it’s said in more medical terms than anything.
SpoilerJosephine’s brother helps kidnap her for ransom.

yes! I love this book! It had all the things I love--including an exploration of a historical event--the massacre of native peoples during the Indian Wars. That was very very very hard to read and I appreciated the weight that it brought on the main characters in the rest of their lives as they sought to make restitution. I can't wait to read each of these men's stories, and this book set it up beautifully!

Also, I totally called the situation with josephine's brother. ignorant man. And Josephine rocks.
