A really interesting premise that hooks you from the beginning... but as the mystery starts to be revealed halfway through the book, the actual secret is pretty boring. The main antagonists are revealed to be very one-dimensional, and there's no nuance to their reasoning, which makes the resolution anti-climactic. The characters who are interesting and well-rounded as children grow up to be flat as adults. 2.5 stars mostly for the exciting first half.

And honestly, I'm ending this book most frustrated by wondering
why was Nazleen at the dinner?? Every other guest was connected to Nina/Beth in some way. Why was Nazleen's connection never explained? Who is she? It bothers me to no end that this entire group of characters were all related to the main story EXCEPT her. God.
