Fatal eggs is a entertaining satirical novel. Bulgakov’s witty style perfectly blends narratological elements with political commentary. The story takes place in early years of the Soviet Union and unfolds along the strange discoveries of Persikov, a brilliant and eccentric scientist specialized in amphibians. Things take a sinister turn when the Soviet intelligentsia, who arrogate the right to freely manipulate nature to achieve their ends and save face, takes control of the newly invented technology to revolutionize the livestock industry. Overall, a fun read, filled with vivid characters and a compelling plot. Particularly appealing for anyone interested in an ironizing critique of the excesses of the Soviet Era.
