Favorites:
• Roisin Kiberd’s essay “Bad Quarto,” on visiting Cambridge for the first time after graduating about a decade—basically perfect. Preemptively drags me for filth, I think; felt parts of this essay *acutely*. It’s beautiful. (“The Night Gym” from the 2018 Summer issue was also excellent. I admire her writing loads and am determined to follow it.)
• Patrick Freyne’s essay “Brain Fever,” on diagnosing psychic pain—big-hearted, very funny. I laughed aloud multiple times on my plane.
• Ríona Judge McCormack’s story “The Tower”—a concise surreal gutpunch.
