DNF.

So, I hated this book. I listened to the audiobook and I liked that cast of characters were alright. But I didn’t find this story at all engaging, interesting, or funny. I don’t even care how this book ends.

One of the best, and entirely unexpected, birthday presents I received this year. The story was fast paced, highly enjoyable, and beautifully drawn. Couldn't have asked for a nicer gift.

I'm absolutely dying to read the book-only epilogue! So glad my friends convinced me to read this web comic because it's inspired so many reactions and emotions. It's also turned me into a world of wonderful things.

Update: I can't believe I finished this book for the 4th time. Even more, I can't believe I still love it just as much as the first time I read it!

So, this book was literally just as good as the first 2 times the 3rd time around :D

*Status Update: ALJDF;KAJ ;FJA;KF – This book is just as good the second time around!*

Wow. Just. WOW. This book. This book absolutely floored me. I was able to check this book out when I went to the library this last Tuesday, and I was so excited about finding it that I read it in one sitting that same night. Seriously, I didn't even take any breaks. Straight through. I had super high expectations for this book since I've been seeing it all over the Tumblr Booklr Community. And, I can honestly tell you it was everything I expected and so, so much more. I was so excited to talk about this book, that I decided to review it today already, even though I wasn't planning on schedule it until at least next week.

This is a graphic novel about a girl, Nimona, who is a shapeshifter. But, it's about so much more than just her. Nimona introduces herself to her favorite villain, Blackheart, after traveling to his fortress and announces that she will be his new sidekick. Blackheart is in constant revolt with The Institution that cast him aside in favor of promoting Goldenloin as the community's hero. But, is The Institution up to way more than Blackheart originally suspected? And, how much does his former best friend, Goldlenloin, know about what's going on right under his nose? Told in a sort of Modern Medieval setting, join these fun characters as they try to save their town and also as they have some grand adventures.

Okay, now that that's out of the way. WHERE DO I EVEN START WITH THIS BOOK?

I guess I'm going to start with the story. I adored everything about this story. There were zero plot holes, plenty of action, tons of adventure, a well-developed storyline, and an ending that will make you laugh, cry, and smile all at once. Stevenson definitely knows what she's doing when it comes to story telling. Everything, and I mean everything, is so beautifully developed. I just literally cannot contain my feels right now.

I guess I'll just continue to gush, then. Next up: the fantastic characters. Oh my goodness. THE CHARACTERS. I love all of the characters so, so much. Well, except for the head of The Institution, but you're not supposed to love her, so. Well, I guess I do kind of love her character, though, because she makes a fantastic...oh wait...sorry. No spoilers here! You will just have to find out for yourself about the head of The Institution. These characters have great diversity. Plenty of men and women. Plenty of everything a good story needs. Plus, Nimona's body type is heavy-set with short colorful hair, and she is absolutely gorgeous, and I love that Noelle is working to make all body types mainstream. (Quick thank you to her for that!)

I also love that every character, even though this is a short graphic novel, have depth beyond belief. I also love that this book really focusses on the idea that not everyone is just good and not everyone is just bad. There are shades and degrees. Blackheart is a villain, but he is not completely bad, and he is nowhere near all good. Nimona is the same way. There's also the idea that not everyone who is supposed to be the good person always is. Sometimes they're the worse than a monster. Anddddd, that's all I'm going to say about that now. I just. Okay. I just love all these characters so much. Also, Blackheart and Goldenloin literally breath life into my body. You will understand once you read this. They are the most adorable people. I can't.

ANYWAY, moving on. The artwork. Oh god is the artwork is beautiful. Vibrant colors; gorgeous details; everything is perfect. Literally. This book is literally perfect. I can't find one single complaint (and I'm usually a pretty picky person, as you know if you've been following me awhile) about this story. Not a single one. Stevenson has created something beyond beautiful. I can't even put into words what Stevenson has created.

Basically, I'm so in love with this book, and I want to read it about 50 more times. I'm so mad that I'm, actually for realsees everyone, on a super strict book buying ban, because I want to own this books unbelievable bad. If you have not read this book yet, GO READ IT RIGHT THIS VERY MINUTE. I seriously, seriously recommend this book to everyone. Okay, I mean you should be into graphic novels and the type of setting that I described, maybe. But really tho, you should just read this book. I give it 5 incomprehensibly bright glowing stars.

I'm relatively new to the world of graphic novels - and this one was an absolute treat! Intriguing from start to finish, depth of background, and actual laugh-out-loud moments throughout.

So glad to finally see the dark side of the coin in such excellent light.
