This book grabbed my attention immediately from the first chapter. After the one year mark when Jacob and Tori were supposed to meet, the tone of the book changed completely. Full of instalust and steamy moments to say the least.

The book took another turn at Frank's ranch. I got serious cowboy romance vibes. I was able to keep track of most of Jacob's team until we got to the siblings who worked for Guardian. There were entirely too many "J" names. It was difficult to keep track of each sibling and their speciality. I finally got a handle on Joseph (Fury), Jason (who got addicted to pain meds from a prior injury but was clean), Jewell (who seemed to be some type of analyst like Tori), and Jared (who seemed like Jacob's 2nd in command).

That was a total of 5 out of 8 or 9 siblings, not including Chief, Doc, Dixon, and Drake. I could be wrong about or missing a couple of people. Like I said, it was difficult keeping track of people.

Then, the book took another turn and put them back on an Op and turned the heat up on the action, danger, and suspense. It was intense and not everyone came out of it unscathed.

This book was a rollercoaster ride. I almost gave up because of the transitions in tone. As I moved through the story, a number of questions I had got answered. This book packed a lot into it, including the frequent steamy scenes with Jacob and Tori. I also liked Frank, Amanda, and Gabriel.

I understood that this was book 1 and it seemed to introduce all of the characters in the series, but it was a lot of people. It sometimes made it hard to keep track of what was going on. Yet, the storyline was still intriguing enough for me to want to move forward and see what happens with each character.

4.5☆

A new author to me, this story took me by surprise and I really enjoyed reading it, in fact if not for a few tiny little things I would of happily given this story 5☆

The story itself was really enjoyable to read, the two main characters very likable especially Tori who after suffering through hell and surviving was a fantastically strong lead character. I also really liked the idea behind how Jacob and Tori would reunite. Rather than it be through an act of terror or violence them agreeing to meet a year from her rescue was pretty unique and certainly piqued my interest.

I also enjoyed the action and suspense towards the end of the story but if I'm honest I was hoping for a bit more of it. Don't get me wrong I really enjoyed what there was, but I wish the rescue mission of their captive teammates and the guys eventual rescue had been covered in more detail.

Overall though it was a great story, it certainly drew me in and kept me hooked and I will definitely be continuing on with this series, and would happily recommend this story to others.

Solid 4.5 stars. Good story, loved the battle details. I don’t know enough to verify accuracy but I sure enjoyed reading it. I’m in for the rest of the series. And I’m super picky.

Intriguing new series I am anxious to make my way through

This is a very interesting new series. Interesting yet scary premise, intriguing characters that clearly have layers of issues to work through, suspense and hot romance. A good and entertaining combination. Jacob and Tori get it all off to a good start and there are interesting introductions of all the other characters which hint at the books to come. Personally, I'm kind of excited for when we finally get to Jade's story!

First book I have read by this author. It was highly enjoyable. I love my insta love books, but I just at times wasnt sure that they had a true deep love, it felt very fast even for an insta love. I do recommend it. I did buy some others in the series excited to see where they lead.

Awesome well-balanced romantic suspense!!!

Sometimes romantic suspense has a way of either being too much action and too little romance, or too much romance so that the suspense bit is a little ridiculous. This book is not at all afflicted by either flaw. This was a well-balanced, perfectly-gauged romance novel.

The premise is that Tori, a CIA agent was captured and tortured for over a hundred days in Afghanistan without breaking. When Jacob, who is running a mission for a private security company finds her randomly in the course of his mission, his team rescues her. He’s taken by her spirit and courage and humor in the midst of her trauma and they make a pact to meet in a year. Sparks fly when they do but will Jacob’s dangerous job drag Tori back into danger?

I liked everything about this from the premise to the writing to the characterization. It’s sexy but it also felt wholesome and as much small town as big city. My only wish is that there had been more of an exploration of the betrayal that led to Tori’s capture but there are more books so it is entirely possible this will be dealt with later.

Yes, there is an element of insta-love with his but not in an implausible way. The back story is perfect and works well with this trope and makes it a little less instant-y and the characters are always thinking, they never feel like they’re out of control with lust and gave completely lost any sense of danger or appropriateness. I love the secondary characters and am invested in the world and want to know what’s going to become of everyone. There is suspense and violence but not so much that if you’re a scaredy-cat like me, this will leave you dreading the next page. It’s sweet but it’s also action-packed. This is REALLY good romantic suspense.

This was a hard one to rate, between a 1 and a 2.

The positive ~

1 - the team, the first mission, the plans for the ranch

The negative ~

1 - the insta love
2 - the dialogue
3 - the rest of the story

The story was WAY too rushed, and a jumbled mess. I wanted to rate a 1, but I didn't hate it and there were some good ideas, they just were not done well, at all. :/
