This is quite abstract and the illustrations are very complex. This would be a good conversation starter for a mid-elementary classroom.

The illustrations are stunning with their textures and collaging. The text itself didn't quite flow for me.

This picture book celebrates the main character's multicultural heritage, showing how she blends together the different aspects of who she is. The book also emphasizes family bonds, instead of just how unique and amazing she is, which helps elevate this above other self-esteem books.

I found the text a little bit too repetitive at times, and I wish that there had been an author's note at the end. I think it would have been helpful for the author to reflect on her childhood journey to give deeper context to the book, even though it stands on its own.
