When Bera the troll discovers a human baby she realizes that she has rescued it from the evil withc Cloote. Cloote has awful plans for the baby and Bera decides that she will seek out a local warrior to help her return the baby to humans. Bera sets out on a quest that takes her from her protected island that she has never left and into dangerous places where she must rely on the help of new friends.
Great early graphic novel for younger readers who like adventure and fantasy.
Good for ages 8 and up.

Unique artwork drives this story of finding that you can be your own hero. Kindness and selflessness are central themes. The ending was a bit abrupt, but all in all a solid choice. Well done, First Second, as usual.

Bera is a pumpkin farming troll. One day a baby washes up on shore and Bera feels duty bound to help the child get back to people as a witch is trying to eat it. Bera sees the wide world and the many different creatures in it.

This is a great story for younger readers who enjoy fantasy. The artwork conjures new worlds and larger than life settings. It's a story about kindness and doing the right thing even when you want to stay home and be a pumpkin farmer. That would be easier.

Bera discovers a human infant and decides to attempt to find someone who can return it to its own kind. But who is a good enough creature for the task, and how far will she go to try?

Super duper adorable. Witchy, whimsical, and a nice lesson on being your own hero.

I love this adventure story of a gentle hearted troll who heads off into the wild to save a human baby from falling into the hands of Cloote, the former evil head witch of the troll king.
