This book has lots of misused words. Sentences that didn’t makes sense, you had to decipher them by surrounding sentences even then it’s not really clear how the other could make those type of wording mistakes. So I doubt this book has an editor. Details change from beginning to ending. Example contains a spoiler
During a Sylvie section toward the beginning of the book it’s mentioned that Barons father is a basketball star. Later you find out it’s Holt. Which is strange to my to the reader. The father of Baron didn’t need to be brought up. And since it was why to a lazy misdirect. This can’t even be called a misdirect because it’s an outright lie. Also earlier the name of where Sylvie lives is called Blue Hills. But towards the end of the book it’s now Hartford. The beginning vs. end details make me feel like the author started this book and put it down for about a year. Not bother to reread what she wrote to remember what was already written. And it needs a editor majorly. It over all the story was okay so I didn’t give it a 3 or below star rating. I reserve that for the truly irritating story’s.

Author Theodore Taylor in her interracial/multicultural romance Holt: Her Ruthless Billionaire explores a relationship between Holt and Sylvie two people from a very different background. While I like the story, Holt and Sylvie's first time read more like Sylvie was in a dream state, so much like that drug-induced fog Holt found himself in the first time they met. These two went through so far at the hand of his father and Holt's lack of forgiveness when they meet again; you can tell that the love is still there.
I would say that this is one of her better books that did not leave me wondering what did I just read. It had all of the elements of a terrific story, and I just wish it was a little longer and had given Holt and Sylvie more of there moment in time. The Barron and Wes were too cute! This is my review and how I see it. I love this author's writing and can't wait to see what magic she brings to use in the future.

Holt is a billionaire’s son, an addict, and an agoraphobic when he meets and falls in love with Sylvie, a young, hard-working Jamaican immigrant trying to find a job and support her family. Sylvie is the only person to bring him any kind of happiness, even though she has to give up everything she knows to be in a relationship with him. But when he wakes up from an overdose and Sylvie is long gone, the betrayal cuts him deep. Some years later, they just happen to meet by coincidence (oh really), Holt realizes he’s not over it and will do whatever he must to get his revenge.
This books is dramatic and over-the-top in all the best kind of ways. Taylor really knows how to twist a plot around until you’re nodding, yes, absolutely, Sylvie, having revenge sex with your ex who is now your boss is the best possible way to accomplish your dreams of going to college. So many family secrets! So much plotting and scheming! And yet, the feelings and motives of the characters are really quite grounded and very approachable. It wasn’t just a soapy drama--- there were real emotions on the line and Taylor asked serious questions about love, trust, sacrifice, and salvation.

This book has given me so many feelings; about the characters, their struggles - both together and separate - and about the passing of my own mother that I can't even review it properly right now.
