Very fun and amusing read. Shook as I was to find out that Ian Fleming was the author of this book, I suppose if his equally witty and fun in the James Bond novels, though aged up obviously, I might actually read them at some point.
I listened to the audiobook narrated by David Tennent. He was obviously wonderful.

It had been so long since I saw the movie that I wasn't familiar with the story. I doubt I had read it since I bought this Scholastic edition in 1964 as a fourth grader! It was a surprisingly good adventure story that was quite enjoyable. Fleming throws in a bit of his James Bond magic by jazzing up the old car with special equipment. I'd recommend this book to any reader especially those that enjoy fantasy adventures.

I have been on a Bond binge for several weeks and decided to mix it up bey reading Ian Fleming's only children's book. I was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting it to be a bit ridiculous, but its actually as realistic and hard nosed as a children's story about a magic flying car can be. I enjoyed as an adult and think I would have really liked it as a child.
It has aged quite well. The villains are bank robbers, which is a trade in serious decline, and the open top roadster was dated when Fleming wrote this, but the combination still works. I think that the flying car has lost some of its attraction for adults. The 50s-60s seem to have had a fascination with the possibility. I don't think the same is true of children. What little boy does't occasionally think about a flying car, even today?

I've never seen the movie or heard much about the book, but this was a fairly cute, engaging book for younger chapter book readers. It did not hurt, in any fashion whatsoever, that it was narrated by David Tennant. I think this could be appreciated by the same readers who enjoyed Charlie and his adventures in the Chocolate Factory.
