Such a beautiful book! It's different than any other Holocaust historical fiction book I've ever read. There's something about the prose that captures you. Brings you back to the power and strenght we find in Nature. Shows how resilient human beings can be, how kindness and unity can save lives. If only we'd reach out and help others more.

I'm an atheist but I enjoyed the religious conversations the characters had in the book. Oh if all people in real life saw religion like Yona and her nun friend did, as well as other characters. Wouldn't the world be a better place?

I like very much that the author gives, in the end, a bunch of historical references, tells the real stories in which she based her book. A friend of mine says the world is in the state it is now, hate is rampant and people openly deny the holocaust now more than ever because the people who survived it or saw it happen to others are dying out. It's so important to have stories like these, pointing out to real historical resources, to never let us forget.

Wonderful story of courage

Beautifully written, strikingly characters.
The story tells of a German child stolen by a mysterious old women who lives in the woods, raised up to be smart and strong and then becomes a fighter for Jews who have fled into the woods during WWII.

It’s rare to give five stars but I just have to… the characters are too realistic and the story was plausible I think her relationship with her father was my only sad face maybe take a star away part but it was a great book!

Not at all what I was expecting! This was an interesting take on a World War II story with some elements of magical realism mixed in. Overall, I thought it was really well done and I enjoyed it!
