Really not enjoying the glib and childish first person narration - I feel like being in Marvin’s head is going to be exhausting, and that’s coming from an anxious person herself lol. Having seen one of the reviews about some strange tones uses during sex scenes, I think I’m making the right choice lol

Idk what I think about this book… my main complaint is probably the fact that this book doesn’t have dual pov

3.5 ⭐ A little too much sex for my taste, and some awkward descriptions like "my dick pops up like bread from a toaster". At least he used cock and dick and not love rod or something

CW: previous alcoholism, previous parental neglect, explicit sexual content

  • there is no way they stay together😭 SO MANY PROBLEMS THAT NEED FIXING. I love illona what a cutie. This was cute and I love that Olan was just like “hey, I like this dude, never liked one before but let’s roll with it” and was immediately so comfortable with everything. Marvin needs so much therapy. But he’s trying. They’re cute as hell together, but I feel like they are deffo gonna have big issues to deal with in the long run.

This was cute! I liked the first half better than the second, but it was still good. I originally had a long paragraph of issues but I slept on it and my issues basically boil down to things that are annoying as a reader (characters not properly communicating, a third act breakup for examples) but they’re understandable for the characters I think and where they are development wise (although it’s still a little annoying to have that happen ~80%)

Although there was that sex scene in Marvin’s classroom—in the back during a parent-teacher conference so no one would interrupt but still!! TV Tropes calls it ‘Making Love in all the Wrong Places’ for a reason😂

Personally, I could’ve seen Olan being demisexual based on how he talked about his previous relationship but that’s more just my lens as an ace woman. I know not everyone thinks about that, I just thought it would’ve been nice to see.

Also Jill was a great friend and the kids in this—and Illona obviously—were adorable🥰 I think it did a good balance with humor and more serious topics. I’m definitely going to continue with the series to see what happens next.

EDIT: I can’t believe I forgot to mention this in my original review but I loved the anxiety representation with Marvin and how he handles his anxiousness as an anxious music lover myself😅
