While this book does show its age in some of the outdated references and problematic co-opting of other cultures traditions, it was a gentle intro to Wicca. While I have seen other reviews online about this not being about Wicca, but Wicca-adjacent (as current Wicca involves covens & is a closed practice - I think) it was a great intro for an outsider.

If someone asks where to start learning about Wicca, this is probably the book they'll get recommended. And even now, it's clear to see why. What I appreciate the most about Cunningham is how readily he reminds you that Wicca and witchcraft are about your personal connection. If his ritual idea doesn't feel right, scrap it and make your own. Mess up during a ritual? Laugh and continue on. He gives clear basics for the practitioner but reminds us that this path is just that, a path that never ends. Definitely pick this one up if you're interested in learning more about Wicca and witchcraft.

Absolutely loved this. I've been eager to learn about Wicca since I was a young lass but being raised in a tightly-Christian household made it impossible. Now that I'm on my own, I was able to devour this book. I love the emphasis on the self and nature and how those translate to a spiritual practice. Lovely read and lovely intro.

I read this book years ago and felt drawn back to it recently. The library had an audiobook ready so I took it as a sign. Still a great, easy to access book.
