An interesting and informative account of the early life of Bob Marley, but it almost feels like once we get to the point of him becoming a star, he's rushing to finish the book. We spend a lot of time on his formative years, and then rush through his rise to fame straight to his untimely death. The first half of the book is robust and packed with information, the second half feels a bit light in comparison.

This book is a little schizophrenic. The pace and focus of the author in the beginning totally transforms into a tedious recitation of names and dates but the middle. While I loved the first three chapters, the rest of the book was difficult to push through.

It's hard to explain how, if you are from a "Third World" country, how YOOGE Bob Marley is. There is just no equivalent comparison Stateside. So reading about his life was awesome.

Read this one a few years ago during a trip to Switzerland. I'd caught some horrible European bug, practically spent the whole trip in the bathroom... Anyways, when I separate it from the very awful memories of my illness, I can honestly say that this is one of the best biographies I've yet to read. Timothy White was one of the great journalists of his time, and this book has so much to say and to teach about Jamaica, the Rastafarian movement, the history of reggae music, and, of course, the great legendary musician that was Nesta Robert Marley.
