An easy read/listen for white folks interested in learning more about the Black experience.
Emmanuel’s writing style is naturally conversational, and aware that he only has his own perspective to work with.

Note: There’s a young readers version of this, in case you want a similar resource for your kids.

Loved everything about this book. The content, the research, and Mr. Acho’s voice are incredible.

He answered so many questions I have had, and more I haven’t. 100% recommend to everyone

Emanuel Acho answers every awkward question you have ever had about being Black in the United States. Every question you've been to scared to ask. Yes you'll feel uncomfortable, yes it'll be awkward but it is definitely worth it.

This is a great starting point for the most common questions people have about American Black culture and things we see in the media. "Why is X offensive?" or "Why do Black people...?" often earns the questioner a virtual slap on social media, but here Acho answers all of these things in an honest, warm, conversational tone (he reads the audio btw). Each chapter has follow up questions and references for further reading and steps to take. If I ever get the chance to do a book exchange with someone in another political camp (like: "what do you most want me to understand about what's important to you"), I'll probably choose this one.

This was a good entry level yet thought provoking book about the topic of racism written (pretty explicitly) for white people. I enjoyed listening to it and would recommend it.

Well-written, and in a casual style, Acho provides a fully cited entry to anti-racism and allyship.
