Such a beautiful and romantic love story about overcoming all odds for the sake of love. I picked up Perfect Chemistry after seeing review after review absolutely raving about it. There haven't been too many Contemporary Romance novels (YA or Adult) that I've really liked. Normally I just need something a little bit different than usual in order for the book to hold my interest. But this one certainly had that, and I loved every page!

First off, let's talk about the two main characters. I adored both of them. I loved that as readers we got to see past both of the facades they used to create and maintain a certain image for themselves. I loved that despite these stereotypical images they purposefully would portray themselves as, both of them saw right through each other practically from the beginning.

Brittany was such a sweet, loving, and caring person. Despite the mask she feels she needs to put on, her brightness and love for others was always front and center, and I absolutely loved her for that. Even when she was afraid of shattering her fake outter self, she still pushed on when she knew it was worth it.

Alex was…sigh. How can you not love Alex? I can honestly say I never thought I would love a gangbanger as a hero. But the Alex we got to see as a reader was so sweet and passionate and when he loved, he loved with all his heart. Despite Alex's situation, you really come to understand how he got to where he was and why it was so hard to get out of it. He's just a boy trying to live his life the best he knows how, trying to survive and I really and truly felt for him throughout the story.

Now as for the story itself. It was perfect. I am normally a person that loves a clearly defined obstacle (outside of the romance) that the character has to overcome. However, this story needed nothing else. The fact that these two loved each other and where they came from was enough of a story to fill the pages and keep me from putting the book down.

Overall, I definitely recommend this one if you love a good young adult romance. Even if you're not a big young adult fan, I think you'd love this one for the romance itself. It's a great story about even better people and I can't wait to read the next one!

P.S. LOVED the Epilogue. I laughed so hard! So cute and such a sweet ending!

Brittany is a senior in high school and is very popular. Despite what everyone thinks her life is less than perfect but she tries so hard to seem like all is good. Alex lives a very different life than Brittany he's in a gang. Also he tries to get his brothers to want more from their lives. Brittany and Alex have to pair up as partners in Chemistry where they both find out they may have a few things in common.
I really enjoyed this it was very emotional at times and many difficult choices had to be made. I liked the characters. I will probably read the rest of the series.

This has been on my TBR for a while so I read it on a road trip to Mexico and there was a couple things I did enjoy about it like their chemistry lol…

But some parts I was like ugh this is so cornyyyy.. either way I enjoyed it almost like a guilty pleasure aha. I was really into Alex’s personality bc he really does fit that cholo vibe but realistically I would’ve sided with Brittney’s friends like he is deadass involved w a gang. 💀

In the end, I was pissed when
he said that stuff to her about having sex w her in the hospital and then ghosting her for months. If that happened during my senior year I would be pissed. But I suppose if he changed for her then it’s fine lol.
I don’t think I’ll pick up the 2nd book. I would’ve loved this in middle school.

I've had this book on my kindle for a while, and I don't really read many books which don't have a supernatural element, or isn't dystopian. So, I kept pushing this aside, however, i'm really glad that I finally read it and it exceeded my expectations.

The plot to the book was not massively original - rich good girl falls for bad boy. However, Elkeles did it really well. The characters were great and extremely well developed and I felt myself getting attached. I love how Elkeles breaks through the typical stereotype of a rich white girl and a poor Mexican boy, as neither wanted the lives they were given and wanted an escape.

I thought the writing style was good and there was a good pace to it, and I really enjoyed it being written in both Brittany's and Alex's POVs. I also like the fact that Elkeles must have done a lot of research for the gang aspect of the book, as to me, it's what I imagine a gang like and I thought it was done really well. There was a lot of Spanish words being used, which is to be expected because Alex is Mexican, but I think it was used too much.

Overall, I really loved this book and it is a must read!
