Death by Indulgence, previously published as Fat Chance, is critically-acclaimed crime writer AB Morgan's fifth thriller, and what a refreshingly original read it is. The contents of the book very much reflect the title and the story is a sickening illustration of how money can buy you just about anything. I found myself ruminating on this as it really is rather thought-provoking and by the end the old adage "money is the root of all evil" was ever-present in the forefront of my mind. It centres around reluctant protagonist, Ella Fitzwilliam, who has been sent undercover at a private members club for the wealthy but nothing could've readied her for the shocking, sordid and disturbing things she discovers. This is a superb piece of psychological suspense.

The cast of characters features some of the most engaging figures I've encountered in a while and Ella is a cracking character. I really loved that Ms Morgan was ballsy enough to create a main character with bipolar disorder and I felt it was portrayed in an eye-opening and realistic fashion; Morgan's previous job as a psychiatric nurse made it all the more authentic and believable. This is a pure page-turning exploration of the extremes of human behaviour; it explores psychology in such a way that makes it unique and endlessly fascinating. There are so many identikit thrillers out there, so if you are looking for something a little different but still with the drama and intensity that defines the crime genre consider picking this one up. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. Many thanks to Junction Publishing & BOTBS for an ARC.
