A Sweet Mess by Jayci Lee

I tried pushing through but I gave up. All this couple did was lust after each other from the very beginning. More power to y’all who love spice so you’ll probably enjoy this book, but honestly if all I wanted was spice, I would pick up erotica instead of romance.

Like I’m sorry but where the fuck was the romance???? How the fuck was I supposed to root for these two to be together and have a HEA if all they had going for them was LUST??

Maybe 2.5 stars. So I’m not going to completely trash on this book since it was my first experience with this author. I think the overall concept was intriguing, but some of the writing was just UGH. If I had a dollar for every time Aubrey said, “Oh, Landon”, I could buy another book. No one talks like that in real life, so it was just annoying to see it repeated over and over again. I also hate the accidental pregnancy trope, so it has to be REALLY well done for me to remain engaged with the book. This one did not deliver (no pun intended). I also thought the resolution was super rushed but also too lengthy. Like, the mothers having completely resolved their own issues in one or two scenes is wildly unbelievable while Landon and Aubrey’s resolution was lengthy and flip-flopping for pages. I am hoping the second and third ones are better, or otherwise I won’t continue to read this author.

This... didn't work for me. While I'm not the biggest fan of cooking / food related books, I decided to give this a shot because the premise sounded cute and ugh that cover is adorable.

Aubrey runs a bakery and when a cake mix-up happens, she gets a harsh review that threatens her livelihood. She never thought the food critic would be her one-night stand either. Landon wants to make up for the bad review so he comes up with a plan to save her business: spending three weeks in California wine country working with him so she can guest star on his friend's cooking show.

The dialogue is weirdly stilted and formal randomly and it didn't work at all. Plus the POV would switch in the middle of a page with no warning and it was so hard for me to follow because they sounded the same. I get the plot but it all just felt weird and so random too like ??? Why is that the solution? Why is this all so underwhelming.

I was never really behind the romance because Landon was an ass and not in a fun way either. I didn't like how it started and it just didn't do anything for me.

Who even cares about food reviews whAT? I didn't even know people still DID those, let alone made such a big deal about such a small mistake too. I know nothing about them obviously but I'm pretty sure that isn't how you review them either. Which that was also so strange because who makes a cake look exactly like the daily special and then doesn't label it?? Out of all the cakes to make?

This wasn't a sweet mess, just a mess. (I'm sorry I HAD to.)

I really can't get over the excessive lust that they feel for each to the point where they are ready to bang on the dining room table in front of company
That and Aubrey annoys the hell out of me with
the narrative that because her parents relationship didn't work out then hers won't either
