Caldecott Honor Award Winning Picture Book. With rough emotionally charged art that's kind of cool. And text that's pretty well done. But the story just doesn't ring true. I guess it's expecting that it's okay for a child the age to throw this kind of tantrum to go out and blow off steam the way she did. And though the art was cool, it wasn't the kind of art I actually liked.

I remember the way my oldest son’s temper could possess him completely when he was somewhere between two and four. This book - and Where the Wild Things Are - gave us shared language and references so his feelings could become more mentionable/manageable.

The Illustrations and color palate, as well as the message of finding a good outlet for one's anger, are wonderful.

The parenting part of the story is a bit worrying. Story that tells a child you can only count on yourself as the adult in your life that is responsible for your wellbeing just didn't even try to figure out what is happening and let you run into the woods by yourself.

I'm not a fan of the illustrations, but also- I don't think it's very clear that she's not actually running away from home. I'm trying to find good anger/emotions books for this age, but I don't think this is one I'm going to select.

I think this book is rather misunderstood. Other than the beautiful and vivid illustrations, it is also a good portrayal of how sometimes it is better to walk away from a situation, calm down and allow our anger to settle first instead of lashing out in reflex.
