This book starts out on a strong foot, but the longer it drones on, the point begins to devolve. The book is highlighting white collar/blue collar classism, and at the same time âahh! There wonât be any jobs because the machines are taking over!!!â But the machines become less of a focus, and zooms in on Dr. Proteusâs (what I would classify) midlife crisis. Could have done without the work outing/workshop/team building event⌠thingy. Itâs just made the plot lag.

On machines:
âWell, what the heck,â said Buck. âI mean, they arenât people. They donât suffer. They donât mind working.â
âNo. But they compete with people.â
âThatâs a pretty good thing, isnât itâconsidering what a sloppy job most people do of anything?â
âAnybody that competes with slaves become a slave,â said Harrison thickly, and he left.â
Moderate: Infidelity
Minor: Animal death
