3-3.5. I didn't really get what was going on most of the time, but there were some parts that were fun to read. Other parts really weird. And other parts dull and overly poetic. Maybe poetry isn't for me.

This was such a strange and wonderful book. The prose was completely captivating and it was, at times, darkly hilarious. I grew up in South Western Ontario where this book was set so that leant a deepened sense of being dumped into an alternate reality because, while I recognized some place names and details, Alexis' project is to make everything bizarre and slightly unfamiliar. Reading this book was like being trapped in a fever dream where regular things become distorted and warped but retain a hold on deep realities. Highly recommend! But prepare for a very odd journey and brushing up on your Greek mythology won't hurt either!

Love this book. Beautiful incorporation of plant life. I wish there was a second book to continue Alfred's story.

I really gotta stop choosing books just because it mentions plants or a botanist. Ended up being not what I was in the mood for and I was over it.

This was a strange book - I would vote it 3.5 if I could. I did enjoy reading it, it was a bit all over the place, and pretty weird, but I guess that's kind of my vibe sometimes!!! It was unique and I thought about it a lot. It also prompted me to try watercress for the first time and it was very delicious, so thanks!

This one took a turn I didn't expect. Beautifully written. Left me remebering how weird and wonderful Andre's writing is.

What an absolute meal of a book. How strange, how beautiful, how reverent. I enjoyed spending time with every character, particularly the minor ones, and hope to see them again in another Alexis novel.

I truly dont know what ive just read.
At first i was intrigued because it was so mondane and like cozy but then it just became boring, the plot didn't make much sense to me and the only thing that kept me going was the flowe drawings and their names and all that
