I originally dnf’d this book, due to it being frustratingly slow and boring for 85%, but I wanted to finish the series. I liked the first book so much and I hear the third book is better. Rereading it as an audio book from the beginning helped a lot. The acting really helped the slow parts and made some characters more lovable then before.

Not sure what I think about the ending; it's rather bleak. Not sure what I think about the magical infection of the soul that's going on, either, or how manipulative every. single. character. is. But oh boy, it's still a very compelling story.

While I love this world and the characters, the overall plot of this book left me frustrated and even confused at times as to why characters took certain actions.

A slightly disappointing sequel. There were a few pacing issues for me and the plot didn't feel particularly strong.  I still enjoyed the characters and my time with them.
