I loved the introduction to this short story collection. It really gives you a sense of Joe Hill as a person, and not just as a writer. Hill writes about how he became a writer, and what it was like having published writers as his parents. More specifically, how being Stephen King's son effected what and how he wrote. It is well worth the read/listen!

I enjoyed a few of the stories in here, but some were not my cup of tea. My favourite of the collection was the second story about the Carousel. The first story is written in partnership with Stephen King. If you like creepy stories, this is the collection for you.

The stories I read, I enjoyed. I skipped the ones that didn't appeal to me. I don't know my thoughts on the stories I skipped. I won't be surprised when I revisit this in a few years.

I didn't fully grasp a couple of the stories but overall, this made for a great Halloween read! I loved Faun the most for it's
Spoiler shocking twist
. Late Returns was both spooky and a little sad. Mums felt all too relevant to today's society (making it a little extra scary). And reading In the Tall Grass makes me want to rewatch the Netflix version and compare notes. I think the written version might have been scarier!

They're good writers, but not for me.

Very good collection of short stories with some genuine spine tinglers and a nice diversity of settings. Clean, fierce, fast writing which is precisely what I’ve come to expect from Joe Hill.
