Well.  I think Carmilla is hella gay but I don't think Laura knew that and couldn't read Carmilla's intentions.  She literally thought that they were just going to be besties. 

The ick for me was that Carmilla was pretty much over 100 years old and met Laura when she was 6.   

The writing was pretty much easy to follow, but there were some boring parts that I ended up missing out some stuff.   

It's a little overhyped for me.

Dreamy and extremely gothic. Some of the luster and horror has been lost with modern knowledge and tropes, but fascinatingly compassionate to even its monsters.
