I'm sympathetic the majority of the claims in this book, I just don't feel it was written in a particularly compelling way or that it added critical thinking on the solution side of things. Most of the problems raised are problems that are big topics of conversation these days in the NGO and philanthropic world, and while they can't be overstated, I'm not sure that this book really added all that much to my understanding of them. Perhaps it would be more revelatory for those outside the sector, though it seems mostly aimed at practitioners.

An important book for anyone in the philanthropic and financial industries to read and deeply process. Using wealth to heal the pain and injuries caused by colonization and white supremacy will require massive shifts in how major foundations and investment firms and banks operate. The roadmap is here and it’s time to listen and implement change.

Great book to read if you are in Philanthropy, Corporate Social Responsibility, or engaging in acts of love for humanity. Good to read after or during a reading (or re-reading) of White Fragility.

This book gives the reader a lot to think about. I loved most of it, especially his assessments of the state of philanthropy and wealth in our culture found in the first part. I wish there had been a bit more practical points with ideas for what individuals could do as well as ideas for how to reform society at a structural level (which is certainly beyond the individual, though connected!). Overall though, a great book for anyone working in nonprofits or interested in wealth, economics and philanthropy.

A community is only healthy if we all take care of each other. Yes, and so grateful Villanueva said this so clearly. Also, consider altruism as being reserved only for wealthy (white) people. Woah. 100%.

It was about philanthropy and not so much about fundraising. Some great writing and some great sharing of ideas about generational trauma, discrimination, white supremacy and wealth.
