This one goes a bit darker than the last three. Though I was not surprised by the big reveal, I had a few other surprises that were satisfying, so it worked for me. Five's character is interesting and unique, and his powers are pretty cool. The tension really ramps up and the stakes get huge.

I feel like with a lot of the 'action' books I've read lately, there's all this in between until shit gets real at the end, and that's what happened in this book. It was a good deal of comraderie and training until shit hit the fan, and OMG!! That was a huge pile of shit.
I can't believe the book ended that way. Seriously, WHAT THE FETUS?! All I could think was: If someone doesn't snap Five's traitorous neck . . . And another years wait until the finale.
The end of this book was an emotional roller coaster and I REALLY need someone I can share my feels with about this series, this book in particular, but alas, like Eight, I'm alone on an island of sadness.

Probably best so far in my opinion. Especially loved training scene. Only problem was that I predicted 5 would betray everyone. Not sure if that was just coz I’d heard one of garde turned evil when from someone reading book before me
