Read The Craving Mind before this one. This has a lot of the same stuff. In fact, if I were only focused on anxiety and not also my addiction to food, I might have found that frustrating. Dr Brewer’s primary hypothesis is that anxiety is a habit loop like so many others that drive our behavior. I think he’s right, but if you’re looking for a “quick fix” or “magic pill”, it’s not here.

That said, the strategies in this book are solid. I think they really can help you deal with your anxiety, cravings, and other habit loops. Give it a read!

I agree with the other reviews - This book has a lot of great information in it. Unfortunately, it was far more targeted towards addiction, rather than things like GAD and panic disorder. It wasn't at all what I was looking to read, but I did still finish it.

I don’t think my brand of anxiety quite aligned with this book. But for others who have found Buddhism and more spiritual practices to be difficult to approach, I think this book might be helpful with its more western, scientific approach.

Read up until about 25% of the book, and then skimmed the rest. This book features *a lot* of repetition, especially if you are already somewhat familiar with the ideas that are being talked about. Possibly good for beginners to these concepts, but for me this book contained way too much fluff.
