⭐⭐⭐.5 -- Love the cover!

This was certainly an intriguing read. I think this is the first time I have read a "creative nonfiction" book.

Took forever to read due to dry regurgitation of facts. So many names, tangents, and locales made following any of the mystery easy to follow. Found myself putting it down and picking up something that kept my attention.

An interesting story, but told in a very dry fashion.

The major spoiler for this book is that there is no confirmed suspect or chance of post mortem solution. Because of the timeframe since the crime occurred, no one involved in this case is still alive and without any DNA evidence to work off of there is nowhere to go but conjecture. In addition, if anyone is looking for the connection to Twin Peaks, that is only mentioned in passing.

With that in mind, this book is fascinating in that it provides a very clear picture of politics, police methods, and relationships that impacted the investigation of a crime in early 20th century America. Some readers apparently found this boring as this leads to the book reading more like a procedural than a story.

It is apparent from the way that this book was written that the authors are quite enthusiastic about the subject matter. They obviously spent a great deal of time researching and basically living this information. This definitely comes across in the text of the book and this added to my enjoyment of reading this book.

This has got to be hands down the most boring, drawn out true crime book I’ve ever read. While I realize some books take time to get interesting, this one just never gets better. And the murder is not solved in this book that covers more history than murder. A complete snooze of a book and not worth the time.

I rarely leave written reviews, but this was bad enough to do so. I lost track of the amount of times I fell asleep while reading this book. I had to force myself to finish it. Incredibly boring and repetitive. I think they went a little overboard with using a thesaurus as well. I’m really glad I didn’t spend any money on this.
